INTERNATIONAL oilfield services specialist Glacier Energy Services is refocussing its business structure with the creation of specific Offshore and Engineering divisions, and appointment of managing directors to lead those operations.
Glacier Offshore comprises the Roberts Pipeline Machining and Site Machining Services businesses, while Glacier Engineering is currently focussed on its Wellclad business, which delivers weld-overlay, welding engineering services and turnkey manufacturing for surface and subsea wellhead equipment.
Mark Derry joins Glacier as head of the Offshore division, while George Leggate, who recently returned to the company to head up its Wellclad business, will lead the Engineering side of the group.
Scott Martin continues as Chairman of the group, and, as part of the restructuring, Dave Sturrock, having successfully led the business as CEO from its inception in March 2011, moves to the position of Strategic Director focussing on key business opportunities, growth projects and supporting M & A activities across the group.
Mark Derry, 51, is a former COO of Ashtead Technology's offshore division, managing director of SBS Marine and head of UK business for Hydratight.
He has extensive global energy experience, including in Norway, Abu Dhabi and Singapore, gained during more than 10 years in international operations with Baker Hughes Centrilift and Fugro. He is also a former aircraft technician and instructor with the RAF, with whom he was posted to Germany for six years.
"Securing Mark Derry's appointment has been an important step in the creation of these new divisions and I think we are in an excellent position as we work to accelerate our growth plans, with him and George Leggate leading their operations," says Scott Martin.
"Our acquisition of Site Machining Services as a complementary business to Roberts has formed a natural unit in terms of offshore services, and Wellclad has a wide-ranging remit in engineering technologies and services, making the creation of the divisions a natural progression for us.
George Leggate, 43, has more than 20 years' experience across oil and gas equipment manufacturing and global project management, as well as business process outsourcing and global customer service operations. He rejoined Wellclad in late 2012, having founded the company in 1997.
Glacier Energy Services' combined business operations has a turnover of more than £10million following its formation in 2011, with over 75 staff working across the UK and international markets from its operational bases in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Newcastle.
Glacier Energy Services is backed by private equity providers Maven Capital Partners and the Simmons Parallel Energy Fund, and recently relocated to bespoke premises at Clyde Gateway East, Glasgow, which was opened by Energy Minister Fergus Ewing.
