Gassco announces removal of job for the North Sea structures
Wednesday, Mar 28, 2012
A contract worth some NOK 60 million for recycling the jacket and bridge support for the Ekofisk 2/4S platform has been awarded to Kværner by Statoil on behalf of operator Gassco.
“We’re very pleased that this job has gone to a company with both the experience and the expertise to make it a success,” says Jonathan Alcock, senior vice president for projects at Gassco.
The topsides for the Ekofisk 2/4S platform were removed in 2001, but its jacket and the bridge support remained to be dealt with later. Now scheduled to be cut up and recycled in 2014, the jacket has a total weight of 9 000 tones while the bridge support weighs in at 2 450 tonnes.
The jacket will be delivered in two sections to Kværner’s recycling facility at Eldøyane on the island of Stord south of Bergen. Together with the bridge support, the upper section will be put directly ashore at the yard. The lower section will be installed on a foundation off the quay for disassembly to land.
